Who I Am

My name is Ben Cooper, the writer, artist, and creator behind Ben-Real SoundWorks — a blend of human creativity and augmented intelligence working together to bring music to life. I craft the ideas, stories, and emotional foundations behind every piece, and modern AI tools help shape those visions into sound.

I was born and raised in Parksville, Kentucky, a small community nestled in the transition zone between the Bluegrass Region and the Knobs — a distinctive band of rounded hills that form the natural gateway to the Appalachian Mountains. Most people outside Kentucky have never heard of the Knob Region, but it’s one of the state’s most unique landscapes: a meeting point where rolling farmland rises into the first Appalachian offshoots.

It’s quiet country — winding roads, family roots, and the kind of stillness that gives you room to think. Growing up there shaped my appreciation for simplicity, storytelling, and the deep sense of place that continues to influence my music today.

The Love of Music, Poetry, and a $1,000 Stereo

Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. When my wife and I first got married, we started out like a lot of young couples — a used couch, two old cars, and a simple home filled with more hope than money. But even then, music wasn’t a luxury to us. It was something we genuinely loved. That’s why one of our very first major purchases wasn’t a new car, a television, or nicer furniture.
It was a $1,000 stereo system.

In 1990, that was a huge deal. But it became a running joke between us, because I said I wanted a stereo powerful enough that I could hear it while mowing the grass. I couldn’t actually hear it over the mower — but the stereo was powerful. So powerful it rattled every window in our little farmhouse. That thing shook the walls, and we loved every minute of it.

We joined a monthly CD club that let us pick from every genre imaginable, and together we built a growing music collection that became part of our early story as a couple. Ironically, our cars were so old they only played cassette tapes, so none of the CDs we were collecting could go with us on the road. We kept listening at home instead, where the stereo did more than play music — it filled our little house with energy and joy.

Alongside music, I’ve always appreciated the power of words, but I didn’t learn that my grandfather and great-grandmother had written poetry until I was an adult. A local newspaper published an article about their poems, and that was the first time I ever saw their writing. Discovering their words in print felt like uncovering a piece of my family’s history I never knew existed. When I found Suno, I finally had a way to give their poetry a musical voice. I combined two of their poems into a single song titled:

“My Star or Hope Has Turned to Gold."

I didn’t have their voices — only their words — but turning those poems into a song felt like honoring their legacy in a new way. It showed me what could happen when creativity, family history, and new tools come together.

I’ve never been tied to one genre, and that freedom shows up in the music I create today — Christian songs, cinematic instrumentals, deep 444 Hz soundscapes, and everything in between. My family has also played a part in this journey, sharing clever ideas and memorable lines that I’ve woven into my songs and credited them for. Different emotions, different styles, all carried by one heart.

How Ben-Real Started

Ben-Real didn’t begin with music — it started with bicycles.

When my family and I moved to Florida in the spring of 2021, a whole new world opened up:

Florida state parks, the scenic Timpoochee Trail along 30A, and miles of beautiful places to ride. For the first time, we had daily access to trails that made getting outdoors something to look forward to.

The three of us each picked out different bikes — my wife chose a Moon Cool trike — and riding together quickly became part of our routine. I wanted to encourage others to do the same. An e-bike still has pedals, still gives you a real workout, and still gets you back home with battery power when you need it.

That’s why I began filming bicycle reviews and ride-along videos. I saw it as an opportunity to introduce people to new e-bikes and e-trikes, share the beauty of Florida’s trails, and promote healthier living through simple outdoor adventure.

In fact, my blue e-bike even makes an appearance in my Christmas song “A 30A Christmas” — a small reminder of where this journey really began.

What surprised me was how quickly everything changed. Within just months, not years, the channel that began with bicycles started evolving into something else entirely.

What Ben-Real Has Become

The shift happened faster than I expected. As I explored more trails and spent more time outdoors, creativity started to grow in a different direction. That spark, combined with discovering Suno, opened a door I didn’t even know existed.

Music became the next chapter.

What began as bicycle videos turned into something personal, emotional, and far deeper. Ben-Real became a place for:

Christian songs inspired by faith and life
Cinematic orchestral compositions
444 Hz emotional and uplifting instrumentals
Family-legacy pieces like “My Star or Hope Has Turned to Gold”
Multi-genre and a newfound freedom.

Today, Ben-Real Soundworks is the home of everything I create — a blend of music, story, memory, and meaning. It’s where my love for poetry, my passion for sound, and my desire to encourage others all come together.

What started with bicycles became something much bigger:

A way to connect with people through music that feels real, honest, and from the heart.

The Stories Behind the Lyrics

Almost every song I create has a story behind it — moments from real life, family, faith, and the experiences that shaped who I am. Some of these stories are personal, some are humorous, some are rooted in memories, and others come from unexpected moments along the way.

There’s much more to share, and I’ll be adding the experiences behind each song as Ben-Real grows.
